On August 17, 1969 hurricane Camille slammed into Mississippi’s Gulf coast as a category 5 with sustained winds of an amazing 190mph. Hurricane Andrew is the only other hurricane known to make landfall in the U.S. as a category 5 storm. Widespread damage and 256 deaths were caused by Camille making it one of the most costly and deadly natural disaster’s in American history.
