1967 – Hurricane Beulah, the only major hurricane of 1967 season, moved into South Texas. After hitting the Yucatan Peninsula as a category 5 storm it weakened while slowly moving towards the Texas Coast. Torrential rains from the hurricane turned the rich agricultural areas of South Texas into a large lake. Hurricane Beulah also spawned a record 115 tornadoes. This record would last until Hurricane Ivan in 2004.(David Ludlum) Check out this classic news special on Hurricane Beulah taped not long after the storm made landfall.
