Just days after devastating the Philippines as a tropical storm, Ketsana grew into a powerful typhoon before making landfall in Vietnam. Over 170,000 people were evacuated in 12 provinces before the storms arrival. The storm took the lives of at least 23 people on Tuesday rising the total number of fatalities from this historical storm to over 300. The death toll in the Philippines continues to rise and is now at 284.
Meanwhile, cleanup in the Philippines continues and many of the country’s residents are questioning government officials about the lack of preparation for a storm like Ketsana. Filipino authorities have rescued nearly 12,00 people but their efforts could be hampered as two new storms are brewing in the Pacific and could effect the region later this week. Below is an update on the cleanup effort by AlJazeera.
