Slumber parties were weekend events we would have at a friends house. Too often, weather has forced many to turn their backpack into a pillow on the floor of an airport. But on the floor of a school?
Tuesday night, students at Miami-Yoder School District in Colorado couldn’t make it home when a blizzard hit their community. So, about 60 kids had no other choice than to spend the night in a cafeteria and classrooms.
Gazette.com said children boarded buses when school was dismissed around 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. At that time, the weather was safe. However, half-way through the bus route, drivers where hit with white-out conditions. School officials said bus drivers returned back to the school to keep everyone safe.
Male students were given wrestling mats in a cafeteria while girls slept on gymnastic mats in a classroom.
The overnight stay turned into a night of pizza, snack food, sodas, board games and basketball.
Miami-Yoder School is located about 45 minutes east of Colorado Springs.
